Last December the Massachusetts legislature passed a new law which requires all residential property owners with heating oil tanks that have a fuel supply and/or return lines in direct contact with the floor surface, to make one of the following changes:
Systems that have been installed after 1993 should already meet this standard, as this was code for new installations. If your system was installed prior to 1993, we strongly recommend that you consider this upgrade. It is a modest investment that will help you maintain your tank system and protects the investment you have made in your home. If you have questions or concerns about this new requirement you can contact us.
The Homeowner’s Guide to Preventing Leaks as prepared by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection gives you the detailed information you will find useful.
